Off the Beaten Track – Latheronwheel Fairy Glen

An earlier visit in the year to Latheronwheel Harbour revealed signs towards Latheronwheel Strath. Until we set foot on this beautiful glen, we didn’t realise the incredible work that local volunteers do in creating and maintaining the magical Latheronwheel fairy glen, which you can find next to the woodland burn which runs down into the […]

Latheronwheel Harbour | Off the Beaten Track

I’ve written previously about a trip to Lybster Harbour, which has taken a star turn recently in featuring as a filming location for The Crown. However, the East Coast of Caithness is jam-packed with more harbours, and after we visited Laidhay Croft Museum, we chose a beautiful day to visit Latheronwheel Harbour.

Laidhay Croft Museum | Stepping back in time

Situated on the A99 between Dunbeath and Wick in Caithness, it’s impossible to miss a striking thatched longhouse. It’s worth taking a stop at Laidhay Croft Museum!

Riverside Dining | McBains Restaurant by the River (Review)

Overlooking the Grieg Street bridge crossing the River Ness, McBains by the River has a prime spot in the Highland capital. Thurso is the most northerly town on the UK mainland, and is one of two main settlements in the county of Caithness. Our little county suffers from ‘passing-through’ syndrome […]

Inverness City Guide | What to see, do, eat & drink in the Highland Capital

Inverness is the capital of the Scottish Highlands, and there is plenty to do, see, eat and drink in this city. Inverness is handily located at the start/end of the NC500. Having lived in this rapidly growing city from 2013-2017, and being a regular visitor since moving to Caithness, I felt it was finally time […]

Scottish Beaches | My pick of awesome sand and sea in the Highlands & Islands

If you have any experience of Scottish scenery, you may well know that Scottish beaches are some of the cleanest and most scenic in the world (I may be biased!) In this post I’ll take you on a tour of some of my favourites in the Highlands and Islands region. While some of the big […]

Chez Roux Restaurant @ Rocpool Reserve #ad

This review of Chez Roux also appears on the What’s Happening Inverness FB page. We were gifted dinner and drinks for two in exchange for this review. Inverness has a wealth of restaurants, which locals and visitors alike can enjoy. However, there is only one that has a link to French restaurateur Albert Roux – […]
